jodi and the bushbuck ewe : there are a few picknick places in the Kruger where you can get out of your car and cook some lunch. there is often a troop of monkeys stealing food, but here there were a couple of bushbuck trying to seduce some munchies from the tourists. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS

ellie mock charge : we found ourselves in the middle of a herd of elephants. this young female were pretty upset with us and so we sped away.Adult elephant bulls live in small bachelor herds or on their own. Elephant cows and the young live in large herds that are controlled by the biggest matriarch - who would usually chase away a bull if it gets to close to the herd.

hornbill and millipede breakfast : the millipede, or shongololo as it is known in ZA, contains cyanide and 3 shongololos contain enough to kill a human. some animals thrive on millipedes however. this hornbill seemed to quite like it. apparently civets, shy smallish cats of the african bush (we saw some footprints, but weren't lucky enought to spot one) eat between 150 and 250 millipedes per night!

hyaena next to our camp : hyaena females and males are almost indistinguishable on looks. the females even have mock penises which even apparently become erect when a female of higher status approaches. The females are a bit bigger than the males and they have a matriarchal society where the lowest ranking female outranks the highest ranking male.they often scavenge the remains of lion kills, but are successful hunters in their own right, often bringing down animals as large as zebras. they also boast the strongest jaws of all mammals. yes ma'am.

male kori bustard during mating dance : the Kori Bustard is the worlds largest flying bird. it is just over a meter tall and weighs about 15kg.during mating season the males do a weird dance where they inflate their necks, lifts their tails and then march around like english soldiers. too funny.we were lucky enough to see a number of these dudes doing the funky monkey.
